Gold is a much sort after aesthetic look. Electro-plated gold finishing is used for for both practical and decorative purposes.
Examples of items that can be gold plated include:
Gold plating is more affordable than solid gold. The base metal can be nickel, brass, silver, copper, steel or brass. Pewter is not suitable for gold plating. A gold layer or plate is applied to the surface through the electroplating process. To qualify as gold plated the coated layer has to be at least 7 millionths of an inch thick.
The plating may rub off over time and the gold plating has to be reapplied. The thicker the layer of gold the longer it takes to wear off. Gold plating is ideal for a finish without the expense of pure gold. We can apply lacquering to your item to protect the finish, prevent tarnishing as well to add a decorative finish.
Gold plating can be applied for individual items and more economically for larger jobs. Ask us if you need a quote.
There is no preparation required by you for gold plating. Our expert platers will strip and polish your item before we apply the plating process.
Gold electroplating is a process where a thin layer of metal is applied to an item by immersing it in an electrolytic bath that contains gold metal salts. A direct electrical current (DC) is passed through the solution using a +ve anode and a -ve cathode. The negative diode is made up of the item to be gold-plated. The current means the metal ions are deposited onto the cathode forming a gold-metal coating on the item. The coating then forms part of the original workpiece.
